2013 Indian Grand Prix gets greenflag

Indian formula 1 fans who worried about the fate of the 2013 Indian Grand Prix rejoice as the Supreme Court has given the green light for this year’s race.  The fate was of the race was uncertain since an activist Amit Kumar had filed a petition in the court and alleged that the organizers of the race haven’t paid any entertainment tax to the Uttar Pradesh Government.  In fact the 2014 race was cancelled by FIA and had announced that Formula 1 would only return to India in 2015.

Kumar, for the past two years has argued that Formula 1 was entertainment and not a sport and that it shouldn’t be granted any tax exemptions by the UP Government. In his PIL he had demanded that the race be canceled. The Indian Grand Prix has witnessed a fair share of controversies within just three years from its inception. But the hearing on his petition has been delayed by the Supreme Court to next week thereby confirming that the race would be held a schedule.
